AG Vows Continued Probe Into Alleged ‘Government Weaponization’ Under Obama, Biden

Background

by Emmitt Barry, with reporting from Washington D.C. Bureau Staff

(Worthy News) – Attorney General Pam Bondi said the Department of Justice will continue investigating what she described as widespread “government weaponization” by officials who served under the Obama and Biden administrations, even after courts dismissed charges against several high-profile figures.

In a written interview with Just the News released Sunday, Bondi said U.S. attorneys and federal agents are actively examining alleged abuses of federal power nationwide, calling them “a ten-year stain on the country committed by high-ranking officials against the American people.”

Bondi credited Donald Trump with allowing the DOJ to address what she characterized as institutional damage within the department and the FBI, accusing prior leadership of using excessive legal tactics. She pointed specifically to the 2022 FBI search of Trump’s Mar-a-Lago residence, saying internal evidence showed some agents doubted there was sufficient probable cause. The classified documents case against Trump was later dropped.

According to Bondi, DOJ records demonstrate that political figures were shielded under the Obama and Biden administrations while conservatives were targeted for their beliefs, rather than the agency focusing on public safety threats.

Under Bondi’s leadership, federal prosecutors brought cases against former FBI Director James Comey, New York Attorney General Letitia James, and former White House adviser John Bolton. Charges against Comey and James were later dismissed, though the DOJ has moved to revive them.

Democratic leaders have accused the Trump administration of using claims of weaponization to pursue political opponents. House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries has described the Comey indictment as “malicious prosecution” lacking legal merit.

Bondi rejected those claims, insisting that accountability remains central to her agenda. “No one is above the law, even if they think they are,” she said.

She also referenced a letter from attorneys representing former CIA Director John Brennan, now an MSNBC analyst, seeking judicial intervention related to subpoenas in a grand jury investigation. Bondi said the move signaled fear among “bad actors” attempting to preserve what she called a two-tiered justice system.

“No more,” she said.
