Illegal Immigrant Charged In Violent Charlotte Light Rail Stabbing

Background

by Stefan J. Bos, Worthy News Chief International Correspondent

CHARLOTTE, USA (Worthy News) – U.S. President Donald J. Trump expressed outrage Saturday about “illegal migrants” after a Honduran man was accused of stabbing a passenger on a light rail train in the city of Charlotte in the U.S. state of North Carolina — the second such attack there in less than a year.

Authorities said Oscar Solarzano, 33, was detained Friday on charges including attempted first-degree murder and assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury. Other charges were breaking and entering a motor vehicle, carrying a concealed weapon, and intoxicated and disruptive behavior.

The attack follows another high-profile case in Charlotte earlier this year, when 23-year-old Ukrainian refugee Iryna Zarutska was fatally stabbed on a LYNX Blue Line train while returning home from work.

The suspect in that case, Decarlos Brown Jr., 34, was charged under federal law with violence against a railroad carrier resulting in death — a capital offense.

MULTIPLE DEPORTATIONS RAISE SECURITY CONCERNS

Solarzano is “an illegal immigrant” who had been deported multiple times before re-entering the United States, according to U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) sources.

Authorities said he was not eligible for release on bond due to his immigration status.

DHS sources said Solarzano was first removed from the United States in March 2018 under the Trump administration. He allegedly re-entered the country illegally in March 2021 at the Texas border during the Biden administration.

He was deported a second time afterward, officials said, but is believed to have again entered the country illegally as a “got-away” at an unknown time and location.

SUSPECT’S CRIMINAL RECORD AND ATTACK

Solarzano reportedly has a criminal history in the United States, including a robbery conviction and arrests for aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, resisting arrest, and providing false identification. Court records list several aliases, including Solarzano-Garcia, Oscar Herardo, and Kevin Garcia, according to investigators.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD) officers responded to a reported assault with a deadly weapon at 4:49 p.m. Friday.

They found the victim, Kenyon Kareem-Shemar Dobie, suffering from a stab wound. Officials said he was transported to a hospital in critical but stable condition.

Court documents allege that Solarzano broke into a railroad car “with the intent to commit a felony” while carrying a large fixed-blade knife. Witnesses and warrants said he appeared intoxicated and shouted slurred, unintelligible words before challenging Dobie to a fight.

TRUMP, OFFICIALS BLAME IMMIGRATION POLICIES

President Trump wrote on social media: “Another stabbing by an Illegal Migrant in Charlotte, North Carolina… Democrats are destroying it, like everything else, piece by piece!”

U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy also criticized Charlotte Mayor Vi Lyles, writing on X: “Apparently, the death of Iryna Zarutska wasn’t enough. What is it going to take to remove violent criminals off the streets? The time to act is NOW.”

Solarzano was scheduled to appear in court on December 8 and will later be transferred into Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) custody, according to a conditions-of-release order seen by Fox News’ website.

Officials said he is being provided with a Spanish interpreter.
