Israel Announces IDF Casualties Amid Expanded Ground Operations in Lebanon

Background

by Karen Faulkner, Worthy News Correspondent

(Worthy News) – The Israel Defense Forces have announced that, as of Wednesday evening local time, eight IDF soldiers were killed in battles with Lebanese Hezbollah militants amid Israel’s recently expanded ground operation in Lebanon, the Times of Israel (TOI) reports.

Israel also announced Wednesday that it had ‘destroyed over 150 terror structures’ during the current “limited” ground operation, the Guardian UK reports.

The eight soldiers killed on Wednesday had engaged Hezbollah militants in three different incidents in southern Lebanon. A number of IDF soldiers were wounded in those same incidents and were evacuated to hospital, TOI reports.

The current ground operation in southern Lebanon is part of Israel’s effort to disable and push the Iran-backed Hezbollah terrorists out of the region and enable some 80,000 Israeli civilians to return to their homes in the north close to the Lebanese border.

The civilians were forced to evacuate after Hezbollah began launching thousands of missiles at northern Israeli towns in solidarity with Hamas following the Oct. 7 massacre.

Acknowledging clashes with Israeli soldiers on the ground, Hezbollah said it had inflicted casualties on Israeli troops in the southern Lebanese village of Maroun al-Ras located opposite Avivim and Yir’on in northern Israel, the Guardian UK reported.
