(Worthy News) – The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed on Thursday afternoon that Israeli fighter jets targeted command centers and terrorist infrastructure linked to the Palestinian Islamic Jihad group in Damascus, Syria.
Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA), citing a Syrian military source, reported on Thursday that Israeli attacks on several residential buildings in the suburbs of Damascus killed 15 people and injured 16.
Israeli army radio reported that the targets of Thursday’s attack in Damascus were assets and headquarters of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) group. An IDF spokesperson later confirmed that IAF fighter jets struck military buildings linked to PIJ, which has supported Hezbollah in efforts against Israel.
“The Islamic Jihad terrorist organization has been assisting Hezbollah in southern Lebanon, with the purpose of attacking Israel,” the IDF said in a statement.
“The terrorist organization is an additional Iranian proxy acting under the direct instruction of Iran. Moreover, the Islamic Jihad terrorist organization operates in Syria under the cover of the Syrian Regime,” the statement added.
This airstrike marks Israel’s second attack in the past 24 hours on Syrian territory. The earlier strike targeted bridges and roads in the Homs region, near the Syrian-Lebanese border, used to transport Iranian weapons to Hezbollah.
