(Worthy News) – President Donald Trump announced plans to sign an executive order Monday to slash U.S. drug prices by 30% to 80% through a “Most Favored Nation” policy.
“I will be signing one of the most consequential Executive Orders in our Country’s history,” Trump posted on Truth Social. “Prescription Drug and Pharmaceutical prices will be REDUCED, almost immediately, by 30% to 80%.”
The policy would require the U.S. to pay the same price for drugs as the lowest rate offered in other countries. “For the first time in many years, bring fairness to America!” he wrote.
The America First Policy Institute (AFPI) said the move would force drugmakers to either raise prices globally or cut U.S. rates. AFPI added that the policy could pressure other countries to contribute more to pharmaceutical research.
A similar plan in 2020, aimed at tying Medicare Part B drug prices to international rates, was blocked by a federal judge after pharmaceutical companies sued.
Trump will sign the order at 9:00 A.M. Monday at the White House.
