(Worthy News) – Churches and Christian aid groups in the US are continuing the hard work of helping communities recover from the massive destruction wreaked by Hurricane Helene as it tore through south-eastern states two weeks ago, CBN News reports.
The small North Carolina town of Swannanoa was one of the most severely impacted communities, and the First Baptist Church of Swannanoa has stepped up to help not only by providing food and other essentials but also by encouraging and offering hope to residents.
“We were able to make it through as a church, so we feel that God has spared us so that we can be a beacon of hope in this community,” Jeff Dowdy, Senior Pastor of First Baptist Church of Swannanoa, told CBN.
Meanwhile, the Asheville Dream Center is helping residents of Asheville, North Carolina by distributing water, food, and other supplies throughout the region. “Right now, we’re getting semi-trucks in here. We’re loading them, and we have over 60 nonprofits, churches, businesses, recovery centers, and neighborhoods that we are getting supplies out to,” Dream Center founder Michelle Coleman told CBN.
CBN’s Operation Blessing is also working to help residents in North Carolina. “Teams are serving hot meals, as well as bringing food, water, and water purification systems to people in remote areas,” CBN said in its report.
“A second Operation Blessing team is at work in Valdosta, Georgia. Cleanup crews are hard at work helping clear debris from yards and protecting damaged homes from the elements,” CBN said.
Moreover, Operation Blessing is also preparing for Hurricane Milton to make landfall in Florida on October 10, CBN said.
