Israeli PM: Iran Made ‘Grave Error’ By Attacking Israel

Background

By Worthy News’ George Whitten and Stefan J. Bos

TEHRAN/JERUSALEM (Worthy News) – Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said late Tuesday that “Iran has made a grave error tonight, and the consequences will be severe.” He spoke after the Islamic Republic fired some 200 missiles at the Jewish nation.

Israeli commentators suggested that potential targets could include Iran’s nuclear facilities and critical oil infrastructure.

While not addressing specific plans, Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant said that the Iranian missile attack against his nation showed that “Iran has yet to learn its lesson.”

He warned that “anyone who strikes the State of Israel will face severe consequences.”

Netanyahu said the attack had “failed.”
Israel’s air defense system “is the most advanced in the world.”

Most missiles were intercepted, Israel’s military said, though some residents required medical treatment for what medical workers described as “shrapnel injuries.” Yet Iran-backed Hamas said in a statement:” We congratulate the heroic rocket launch carried out by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps in Iran.”

‘GREAT MISTAKE’

However, Netanyahu added: “Iran made a great mistake last night, and it will pay for it. The regime in Iran does not understand our determination to defend ourselves and our determination to eliminate our enemies,” citing the killing of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah and three other senior officials as examples.

He also thanked the United States for helping Israel in its defense.

Yet, as Israel prepared for a counterattack against Iran and its allies, Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu also took time to remember the victims of the ongoing war waged against his country.

He blamed Iran for a shooting attack in Jaffa that Israeli officials said killed at least seven people and injured 11 on Tuesday, updating the toll from earlier in the day.

Israeli police announced earlier Tuesday that both attackers had been “neutralized.”

Later, the police released a new statement saying that one of the attackers had been hospitalized. After expressing his condolences, Netanyahu said, “Like in the [Iranian] missile attack, behind this attack, there is also a murderous and intentional hand. It comes from Tehran.”

However, Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, remained defiant despite being moved to a more secure location in anticipation of an Israeli strike.

WILDERS REACT

“With Allah’s help, the blows of the axis of resistance will increase and become more painful on the body of the decrepit Zionist regime,” he wrote on social media platform X.

Soon after, Geert Wilders, one of Europe’s most anti-Islam politicians, told him on X in Hebrew: “You are a psychopath, a dangerous lunatic, a sick man who will be defeated because logic, democracy, and freedom will win, and we will always support Israel.”

Iranian officials have privately expressed concerns about Israel’s next move.

They suggested that the killing of Iran’s key ally, Hezbollah leader Nasrallah, showed Israel’s feared Mossad intelligence service had been able to deeply infiltrate power structures.

Iranian sources said Nasrallah’s death was received with shock and anxiety in Tehran.

Some senior officials reportedly privately or in emergency meetings expressed concern that Israel may also strike Iran, with Khamenei as the target.
