Historic September gathering aims to rally voters behind the America First agenda ahead of pivotal congressional elections
by Emmitt Barry, Worthy News Washington D.C. Bureau Chief
(Worthy News) – President Donald Trump announced that the Republican Party will hold its first-ever national midterm convention this September in Dallas, an unprecedented political gathering designed to energize conservatives, showcase the administration’s record, and build momentum before the 2026 congressional elections.
The two-day event is scheduled for September 9–10 and is being billed by Trump as a “rally like none other,” breaking with the long-standing tradition of national party conventions being reserved for presidential election years. The convention comes as Republicans seek to maintain control of Congress and turn the midterms into a referendum on what Trump has called the “Great American Comeback.”\
“We are going to celebrate the Great American Comeback, and the incredible successes of the American People who transformed our Country through the America First Agenda,” Trump said in his announcement, highlighting tax relief, stronger borders, safer communities, lower costs, job growth, and American energy dominance.
Trump first floated the idea of a midterm convention in 2025, but the Dallas gathering now gives Republicans a national stage just weeks before voters head to the polls. Party conventions typically involve platform debates and presidential nominations, but this event is expected to function more as a major political rally and message-setting operation for the fall campaign.
The announcement also comes at a favorable financial moment for Republicans. One day earlier, the Supreme Court struck down federal limits on coordinated campaign spending between political parties and their candidates, a 6–3 ruling that could allow national party committees to pour far more money directly into key congressional races.
That decision could prove especially important heading into November, as the Republican National Committee has reported a major cash advantage over Democrats. The RNC ended May with $125.5 million in cash on hand and no debt, while the Democratic National Committee reported far less cash and millions in debt over the same period, according to campaign finance reports cited in public filings and election coverage.
Dallas Mayor Eric Johnson, who chairs the Republican Mayors Association, called the convention a “tremendous honor” and said the event would help strengthen the conservative movement ahead of the midterms.
“I look forward to welcoming my fellow Republicans from across the United States to Dallas this September,” Johnson said, adding that the convention would “energize our party” and “help build momentum for a successful 2026 election.”
For Trump and the GOP, the convention represents more than a campaign event. It is an effort to nationalize the midterm message around border security, economic populism, tax relief, public safety, and energy independence — issues that helped carry Trump back to the White House and remain central to the America First coalition.
“America’s 250th Birthday is approaching, and together, we are building the foundation for the next 250 years of American Greatness,” Trump said. “The Golden Age of America has only just begun.”
The September convention will likely serve as a test of whether Republicans can convert Trump’s political movement into midterm turnout, especially in races that could determine the balance of power in Congress during the final two years of his term.
