British Millionaire Pledges Legal Aid for Christian Street Preachers

Background

Samuel Leeds says believers should not be silenced for peacefully proclaiming the Gospel

by Emmitt Barry, Worthy News Washington D.C. Bureau Chief

(Worthy News) – British businessman Samuel Leeds has pledged to fund legal representation for Christian street preachers who face police action for publicly sharing their faith.

Leeds said he was “outraged and shocked” by reports of Christians being arrested for preaching in a nation with deep Christian roots. He argued that Britain increasingly applies a double standard—celebrating expression in many forms while treating biblical teaching as inherently offensive.

“Where Christians are being unfairly targeted simply for preaching their faith, I’m prepared to put my money behind defending them,” Leeds told Truth Times in an interview republished by CBN News.

His announcement follows several disputed police encounters involving Christian ministers. Pastor Dia Moodley, for example, was arrested while preaching in Bristol in November 2025 and held for eight hours. Police later ended the investigation without bringing charges, according to ADF International, which supported his defense.

Leeds said Christians must be able to obtain capable legal counsel when authorities overstep their lawful powers. His pledge sends a timely message: Freedom of speech and religion mean little unless they also protect beliefs that challenge the prevailing culture.

For Christians, that freedom carries an even higher purpose. The Gospel was never meant to be confined behind church walls. A nation confident in its liberties should not fear the peaceful proclamation of Jesus Christ in its public squares.
