by Emmitt Barry, Worthy News Washington D.C. Bureau Chief
(Worthy News) – FBI Director Kash Patel said Wednesday that federal investigators have identified what he described as substantial funding streams connected to antifa-linked activities, signaling possible new enforcement actions as the bureau deepens its focus on left-wing violence.
Speaking on “The Dan Bongino Show,” Patel said the FBI under President Donald Trump has been conducting a financial probe into how demonstrations associated with the loosely organized far-left movement are supported.
“Wait until you see what’s coming in the next month or two on the funding streams related to this,” Patel said, adding that investigators have traced financial backing behind protest-related violence. “These organizations don’t operate alone or in silence. They operate with a heavy, heavy stream of funding.”
Patel did not name specific donors or groups but said agents are examining whether money flowed through U.S.-based nonprofits, including tax-exempt entities, as well as potential foreign sources. He stressed the focus is on financial support tied to unlawful acts, not constitutionally protected protest activity. “Money doesn’t lie,” he said, describing the bureau’s strategy as “following the money.”
The director pointed to ongoing prosecutions, including a federal trial in Texas involving nine defendants accused of ambushing and attempting to murder ICE personnel on July 4, and a 2023 case in Georgia tied to unrest surrounding the proposed Atlanta public safety training facility known as “Cop City.”
Patel said the FBI has created additional internal resources dedicated to tracing financial backers of protest-related violence, elevating the issue within the bureau. While antifa is often described as a decentralized movement rather than a formal organization, Patel indicated investigators believe coordinated funding networks may exist.
In September, President Trump signed an executive order designating antifa as a domestic terror organization. Patel said the bureau’s current approach mirrors financial and intelligence tactics used in other counterterrorism investigations, though no new charges specific to the alleged funding networks have yet been announced.
