Israel Raises Terror Alert as High Holy Days Approach

Background

by Emmitt Barry, Worthy News Washington D.C. Bureau Chief

JERUSALEM, ISRAEL (Worthy News) – Israeli security authorities are warning of an elevated terrorist threat against Israelis and Jewish communities as the nation approaches the High Holy Days, beginning with Rosh Hashanah on Friday evening and continuing through Yom Kippur later this month.

Israel’s National Security Council said terrorist organizations and individual attackers continue to seek opportunities to strike Israelis and Jews abroad, with Iran and its proxies remaining the leading global threat. Officials warned that the anniversary of the October 7 Hamas massacre, which falls shortly after the holiday season, could further intensify attempts to carry out attacks.

A senior National Security Council official told The Jerusalem Post that Israeli security agencies have thwarted dozens of terrorist plots during the past year, some involving advanced preparations. Iran and Hezbollah have increasingly devoted resources to operations targeting Israelis and Jews outside the Middle East, according to Israeli intelligence assessments.

Security is also being tightened inside Israel. The Israeli defense establishment has moved to a high state of readiness ahead of Rosh Hashanah amid concerns that Iran, Hezbollah, Hamas, or other hostile forces could attempt to exploit the holidays, when synagogues and public gathering places are especially crowded.

Authorities are urging Israelis traveling abroad to remain particularly alert around synagogues, Chabad houses, kosher restaurants, and Jewish community centers, while avoiding real-time social media posts that could reveal their locations. The NSC stressed that its latest assessment does not represent a new set of travel warnings but reflects a heightened threat environment surrounding the holidays.

The warnings come as Jewish communities around the world prepare for the biblical fall feast season—a period traditionally marked by repentance, prayer, worship, and large communal gatherings.
