Senate Confirms Jay Clayton as Trump’s Director of National Intelligence
Former SEC chairman and Manhattan federal prosecutor will oversee America’s 18 intelligence agencies

WASHINGTON (Worthy News) – The Senate confirmed Jay Clayton on Tuesday as President Donald Trump’s director of national intelligence, placing a permanent leader over the nation’s intelligence community after weeks of uncertainty surrounding the post.
Clayton was approved in a 51-47 vote along party lines, with Republicans supporting the nomination and Democrats opposing it. As director of national intelligence, he will oversee and coordinate the work of 18 federal intelligence agencies.
Clayton previously served as chairman of the Securities and Exchange Commission during Trump’s first administration and most recently led the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York. Trump nominated him for the intelligence position in June, praising his legal experience and leadership credentials.
During his confirmation hearing, Clayton acknowledged that he did not come from a traditional intelligence background but said his experience managing major institutions and handling national security matters prepared him for the role. Senate Intelligence Committee Chairman Tom Cotton, R-Ark., supported Clayton’s nomination and emphasized his record of public service and executive leadership.
Clayton succeeds acting Director of National Intelligence Bill Pulte, who oversaw significant staffing reductions at the Office of the Director of National Intelligence during his temporary tenure. Clayton now assumes responsibility for coordinating intelligence operations at a time of heightened threats involving Iran, Russia, China, terrorism and foreign election interference.
