Trump Announces Landmark Greenland Security Agreement
Deal would give the United States permanent military access while preserving Greenland’s sovereignty

WASHINGTON (Worthy News) – President Donald Trump announced a sweeping security agreement with Denmark and Greenland that would grant the United States permanent military rights on the strategically important Arctic island. The agreement strengthens America’s northern defenses without transferring ownership of Greenland to the United States.
Under the arrangement described by administration officials, American forces would receive permanent access, basing and overflight rights. The United States could also establish additional military installations when necessary, expanding a defense relationship that dates to 1951.
The agreement would bar Russia, China and other non-NATO countries from placing troops or military bases in Greenland. It would also restrict hostile powers from investing in sensitive infrastructure, including ports, telecommunications networks, undersea cables and critical-mineral projects.
Greenland’s position between North America and Europe makes it essential to missile warning, Arctic surveillance and the defense of the North Atlantic. The United States already operates Pituffik Space Base, which supports missile detection, satellite operations and space surveillance.
The deal stops short of Trump’s earlier proposal for the United States to acquire Greenland. Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen said it recognizes the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Kingdom of Denmark, along with the Greenlandic people’s right to determine their own future.
Although Trump described the agreement as completed, the Danish government said the three governments are expected to sign it during the United Nations General Assembly. Parliamentary procedures must then be completed before it enters into force. If approved, the agreement would secure America’s Arctic position while leaving Greenland’s sovereignty where it belongs—with its people.
