US to Provide $8.7 Billion in Military Aid to Israel

Background

by Karen Faulkner, Worthy News Correspondent

(Worthy News) – Israel last week secured an $8.7 billion US weapons package to support its fighting against Iranian proxies Hamas in Gaza, Hezbollah in Lebanon, and Houthi insurgents in Yemen, All Israel News (AIN) reports.

The package was agreed upon in Washington on September 26, following negotiations between an Israeli delegation led by Eyal Zamir, director-general of the Israeli Ministry of Defense, and a US team led by Acting Under Secretary of Defense for Policy, Amanda Dory, AIN reports.

The funds include $3.5 billion for IDF wartime necessities and $5.2 billion designated for strengthening Israel’s air defense systems, including the Iron Dome, David’s Sling, a developing advanced laser system, AIN said.

“The meetings and negotiations aim to maintain Israel’s military edge in the Middle East and support ongoing defense operations,” AIN said in its report. “Zamir expressed gratitude on behalf of Gallant and the Israeli defense establishment for the US government’s steadfast support and commitment to Israel’s security needs,” AIN reported.

Israel’s Ministry of Defense said in a statement that the agreed package illustrates the “strong and enduring strategic partnership between Israel and the United States and the ironclad commitment to Israel’s security.”
