TEL AVIV, ISRAEL (Worthy News) – Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu declared that removing Iran’s ruling regime has become Israel’s “central mission,” telling senior military officials that the goal is now “within reach” as Tehran faces mounting pressure from Israel, the United States, and regional fallout from its terror network.
Speaking during a Rosh Hashanah toast with the IDF General Staff Forum, Netanyahu said the Iranian regime is “faltering” and “weaker than ever,” arguing that Israel’s military operations since the Hamas-led October 7 attacks have sharply weakened Tehran’s regional axis. “I am confident in our ability to remove this threat once and for all — in other words, to topple this regime,” Netanyahu said, according to The Times of Israel. “That is the central mission that still lies ahead of us, but it is close. It is not impossible. It is within reach.”
Netanyahu’s comments came hours after Defense Minister Israel Katz warned that any Iranian attack on Israel would trigger strikes against the regime’s infrastructure, including energy targets. Israeli officials are also reportedly concerned that Iran’s Quds Force and Hamas are increasing efforts to attack Israelis abroad ahead of the Jewish holidays and the third anniversary of October 7.
The escalating rhetoric comes as Washington maintains pressure on Tehran over attacks on commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz. Vice President JD Vance said the United States would not return to talks with Iran unless Tehran stops targeting commercial vessels, while U.S. officials continue to pursue sanctions and pressure against Iran’s economy and oil exports.
For students of Scripture, Iran’s confrontation with Israel carries a weight far beyond ordinary geopolitics. Ancient Persia — modern-day Iran — appears in the prophetic landscape of Ezekiel 38 as one of the nations aligned against Israel in the latter days. That does not mean every military exchange is the final fulfillment of prophecy, but it does remind believers that the struggle surrounding Israel is never merely political. It is spiritual, historic, and deeply rooted in God’s purposes.
The Iranian regime has spent decades vowing Israel’s destruction, arming terror proxies, and exporting revolutionary Shiite ideology across the Middle East. Yet Scripture also speaks of a day when God will deal with Elam, an ancient region tied to present-day Iran, and ultimately bring restoration. Even in the shadow of war, the Lord has not forgotten the Iranian people, many of whom are suffering under a regime that has oppressed its own citizens while fueling bloodshed abroad.
That is why we should watch this moment with sobriety, not sensationalism. Israel may be confronting the head of a regional terror axis, but the God of Israel is also shaking nations, exposing hidden alliances, and reminding the world that His covenant purposes have not expired. The fall of regimes, the trembling of empires, and Israel’s survival all point to the same enduring truth: history is not drifting. It is moving toward the day when the kingdoms of this world become the Kingdom of our Lord and of His Messiah.
