Trump Under Pressure Over Epstein Files Condemns Supporters

Background

By Stefan J. Bos, Chief International Correspondent Worthy News

WASHINGTON (Worthy News) – In an unprecedented move, U.S. President Donald J. Trump has lashed out against his own supporters who criticize his reluctance to open files related to late American financier and sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

Within the president’s Make America Great Again (MAGA) movement, there is suspicion that the administration is hiding details of Epstein’s crimes to “protect the rich elite” Epstein associated with, including Trump.

In a lengthy post on his Truth Social media platform, Trump accused his voters on Wednesday of falling for a “radical left” hoax by the opposition to discredit him.

“Their new SCAM is what we will forever call the Jeffrey Epstein Hoax, and my PAST supporters have bought into this ‘b…s…,’ hook, line, and sinker. They haven’t learned their lesson, and probably never will, even after being conned by the Lunatic Left for eight long years,” he wrote.

“Let these weaklings continue forward and do the Democrats’ work, don’t even think about talking of our incredible and unprecedented success, because I don’t want their support anymore!”

One of the most dramatic theories circulating among Trump supporters is that Epstein, who killed himself in 2019 while in federal custody, was murdered by influential figures to cover up their roles in his sex crimes against children.

Republican voters and politicians have pressed Trump to publicly release documents related to the case, which have become known as the “Epstein Files”.

TRUTH SOCIAL

Several users on Truth Social responded to Trump’s post, calling for him to release more information. “You’re losing your most loyal followers and voices, Mr President,” said one post. “Why are you protecting pedophiles?” added another.

Trump attempted to divert attention by describing the inquiry as “boring” but said he backed releasing any “credible” files, without specifying what those were.

“I don’t understand why the Jeffrey Epstein case would be of interest to anybody,” Trump told reporters when asked why his supporters are so interested in the case. “It’s pretty boring stuff. It’s sordid but boring, and I don’t understand why it keeps going.”He added, “I think really only pretty bad people, including fake news, want to keep something like that going. But credible information, let them give it. Anything credible, I would say, let them have it.”

Yet that wasn’t what his ex-ally-turned-opponent Elon Musk wanted to hear. In several messages on his social media platform X, Musk mocked Trump’s claim that files related to the federal investigation of Jeffrey Epstein are “a hoax”.

“Wow, amazing that Epstein ‘killed himself’ and [Epstein’s frienn] Ghislaine Maxwell is in federal prison for a hoax,” Musk wrote. He wrote after a video emerged of Trump’s effort to deflect questions about Epstein and his accomplice, Maxwell, by casting doubt on the authenticity of the documents his justice department has refused to release.

“Not a single Epstein client has been prosecuted. Not a single one,” Musk stressed in response to Trump’s remarks.

‘NUKING BASE’?

Influential rightwing podcaster Tim Pool said that “Trump is trying to nuke his base” by insisting that any of his supporters who “bought into” a hoax created by Democrats were “weaklings.” Musk wrote: “He should just release the files and point out which part is the hoax.”

On Musk’s platform, the podcaster Theo Von shared a video of current Vice President JD Vance agreeing with him in an old interview: “Seriously, we need to release the Epstein list; that is an important thing.” Von, who hosted Trump during last year’s campaign, commented, “Yeah, what changed?”

Several other high-profile conservatives urged Trump to make public everything known about Epstein. Even his daughter-in-law, Lara Trump, a host at broadcaster Fox News host, has been critical, saying: “I do think that there needs to be more transparency on this.”

Mike Johnson, the speaker of the House, demanded that the Justice Department make the document public, breaking with Trump in a rare moment of friction between the allies. “It’s a very delicate subject, but we should put everything out there and let the people decide it,” Johnson said.

Last week, the Justice Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) announced that a review of the case files had confirmed that Epstein had killed himself, and there was no list of his clients to be made public.

However, Republican allies of the president focused their anger on the attorney general, Pam Bondi, who was leading the case, as she had previously said Epstein’s client list was “sitting on my desk right now to review”.

Questions have also been raised about alleged missing material from security camera footage of the prison where investigators said Epstein hanged himself on August 10, 2019.
